Chautauqua Rails to Trails teamed up with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation in late summer 2015 to figure out how many people use our trails, and what sorts of activities users are undertaking.
We saw an increase in the number of users compared to a similar study done in 2008. The majority (67%) of users were hiking, walking, or jogging; 24% were walking dogs; 10% were biking; and 5% were birding or studying wildflowers.
Lots of other details about our users, as well as the economic impact of Chautauqua Rails to Trails are included in this document.
Thanks to all of our board members and volunteers who helped out by conducting trail counts, and to the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation for compiling this data for our use.
